I understand what your are saying, but anywhere in America worth being would need to be a rich gumbo of humanity to please me, including the accumulated problematic images you hint at - which are not a problem to me at all.
Maybe it's because I'm a California snob that I've always been able to detect such snobbery in others - such as the world-famous Texan snob - the original gold standard of unwarranted Western pride. But after all this time, I'm still California dreamin' and I am still quite sure that it's just like heaven on a sunny day.
