I happen to think that until 'Prop 13' - and the massive change in thinking it launched, Jerry Brown's goals included recognizin
g and fostering an increasingly enlightened society - while simultaneously embracing the rhetoric for an intelligent cooling of expectations as to the financial role of government in achieving those goals.
Todays' Brown continues that direction, but now we are facing the real deal - the monetary 'brick wall' - so he will use his progressive credentials as collateral for an integrity in treating vulnerable populations carefully and fairly. It is a huge task - and if it's even possible, I think he's one of the best shots at setting us off in that direction.
