Yup. I'm with you on that. We don't really pay the true costs of most things.
One day decades ago, it suddenly occurred to me that the can of coke I had in my hand should really cost about $5.00, not just a buck. The cost of the product should include the cost of returning the land back to its pre-mining state after making the can, the cost of recycling that can, the cost of dealing responsibly with each ingredient used - in effect, our complete footprint during the entire make-sell-consume-cleanup process. That's the true cost of that soft drink.
