You are right - and the crossfire is where kids especially get spiritually and emotionally stressed. This is the time in their lives when their family story has died and they are essentially alone, waiting to grow away from it all.
The writer seemed to bypass all that, but I realize that he has to support a workable plan, so it is his mission to encourage the best of the choices available.
