Well, I hate to say it, but I see the same scenario. The concern would have to be enormous to overcome the sheer numbers - zillions of us humans growing and clawing away the land that the animals are desperate for in order to survive. Unless we share our destiny knowingly, it will not be possible for the cats or the elephants or the lemurs to be with us much longer.
Money and machines will be our final act because we are the half-truths of nature - able to know, but unable to care enough to act.
