I taught at a university for 9 years during the 1990s and the students that were delivered to my door brought with them the thinnest understanding of the world I could ever imagine. Often their ability to communicate was almost non-existent, and many of these young people had absolutely no idea what they were even doing there, or what the future might ask of them. It was not hard to notice that our culture was shrinking, and these were its new citizens.
