Sure, everyone could and should act better, but that's not the hot topic facing you. Wait untill the flood of low incomes change your neighborhood and your world forever, and employees everywhere won't have a stick of support from collective bargaining, including legal assistance in protecting their personal employment interests throughout life, and stable access to benefits, and a retirement during which happiness has a chance to prevail.
By not resisting the forces allied against you, you stand no chance of surviving what's ahead.
