Levon Helm, the real McCoy

To merely refer to Levon Helm as "the drummer for the Band" is like saying that John Wayne was "the lead cowboy in some western movies". Levon Helm was a master of so much - so much genuine beauty from one man. But for me, he is always Ridley, the character he played in Phil Kaufman's "The Right Stuff" - the partner of monumental events, narrating for us as we passed through his era. He was superb, and his plain voice was the music I most remember...
