Universal-EMI Merger Could Yield New Mega-Label To Threaten The Future Of Music


His legislation, known as the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, or the Sonny Bono Act (or by many as the Mickey Mouse Protection Act - because it also allowed Disney to extend their ownership and control of the Mickey Mouse image), was a giant shift in the public domain principle that was supposed to underpin the entire concept of copyright. It has snowballed in the years since because of enormous profits to be had in the ownership of rights.
