'Not only did American Gods become a best seller,' writes Anderson, 'but sales of all Gaiman's books in independent bookstores rose by 40 percent over the period the one title was available for free.'"
Interesting scenario. The free book - a loss-leader - is also free to disseminate, which could not be imagined prior to the internet.
