So right. This is a DEFCON 1 New-Age crises management fandango of the first order. This is Apple's Intel Pentium crises all over again - glorious bonehead egotism cooked up in a vacuum, versus those of us who took your advertising claims seriously and your sincerity on faith - you know, those who believed you !
But I actually think that the perfect fix will be a masterfully thought out metal sliver that an Apple store clerk can slip into the guilty crack, obviating what I believe is a skin-touch impedance change problem. It would be very inexpensive compared to profit-killing return-for-repair scenarios.
