Amazon To Cut Off California Partners Over Sales Tax Law

If this is Governor Brown's new way to scoop up money, then he doesn't understand the new math - the really, really new napster math where cost is optional. He doesn't understand that his ruling means that one can still buy Amazon products without Amazon collecting the tax, but California will lose thousands of jobs when over 25,000 Amazon affiliates have to leave the state or go out of business. That's what this ruling achieves, in addition to sticking the state's consumers with extra cost for many products they buy all the time, and coaxing us to drive down to stores offering absolutely no added value and staffed with incorrectly trained workers. Yeah, that's a good use of oil and already frayed tempers.

Herman Cain Says He's Not Offended By Jon Stewart, Except When He Is

Extra cheesy!

Almost everyone in Europe today had slave ancestors during the Roman empire and early medieval period. My ancestors most certainly number among the slaves of the empire, and you know what? I bet they never got enough bacon, probably died miserably and too young, had zero self-esteem and no doubt eeked out a fairly wretched existence. But I somehow got through all the travail, as did Cain.

So I don't give a rat's as - that's all over, and I could care less about thinking about it. Cain should learn to care less too, and stop dancing around his invisible carping pole. Enough, dude; we can all get Latte's now, so find another tangent to go off on...

Social Security Poll: Cutting Benefits An Electoral Minefield

Social Security Poll: Cutting Benefits An Electoral Minefield

"Fifty-nine percent opposed raising the retirement age to 69 years old, 57 percent opposed changing the formula to reduce cost of living benefits for beneficiaries and 60 percent opposed means-testing to reduce benefits for those making more than $60,000 a year. Opposition to the proposal varies slightly by state, but does not drop below 55 percent for any of these proposals in any of the states polled.

On the other hand, the polls found broad agreement with a proposal to apply the Social Security tax to annual wages above the current cut off of $106,800 -- 70 percent of combined respondents supported that change. The majority of Republicans and Tea Party supporters also favored lifting the taxable amount.

This preference for raising taxes over cutting Social Security benefits is confirmed by other national polls. A May poll by the Pew Research Center found 59 percent of adult respondents disapproved of plans to raise the age when people can begin receiving retirement benefits, while 67 percent approved of making more of high-earners' income subject to the payroll tax. Fifty-four percent of respondents to that poll said they would oppose reducing Social Security benefits for seniors with higher incomes.

However, a March Washington Post/ABC News poll found adult respondents opposed to decreasing the rate at which Social Security benefits increase by a narrower margin (3 percentage points) than the new polls."

Joe Lieberman, Tom Coburn Plan To Slash Medicare Gets Cold Reception

"Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: 'Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too.'"

Debtors' Prison: Jobless Woman Jailed For Unpaid Traffic Fines

...odd? You replied to me but the reply was removed... it wasn't offensive... as I said, odd.

Anyway, I'm no lawyer, but I did follow the bankruptcy law change a few years ago and became very concerned. The reason one can now land in jail in a bankruptcy scenario is that the final orders from the judge include your need to pay off certain debts - if you don't you are defying the judges orders and THAT will get you in jail. Prior to the bankruptcy proceedings, your debt obligations were not a court order, merely a financial issue for you and the creditor - no jail would result.

My Senator Diane Feinstein voted for the changes to the bankruptcy laws - a very egregious error - and I have never trusted her again.

Debtors' Prison: Jobless Woman Jailed For Unpaid Traffic Fines

This has been coming along for years now. I noticed it first a few years ago when I realized the logical conclusion and great danger for people dealing with the revamped bankruptcy laws - where people were no longer able to completely unload debt - unlike in corporate law - and could end up in jail as a result of not being able to abide by the judge's ruling as to how much of the debt they could afford to pay back. Failing to meet the judg'es order could easily lead to jail - and suddenly the incarceration of citizens for unpaid debts again became a reality - skirting the assumption by most Americans that debtors prison was abolished long-gone in America. It was; but conservatives are in control now and we're on the road to Serf City - where the rules are stacked against all but the wealthy.

U.S. Nuclear Regulators Weaken Safety Rules, Fail To Enforce Them: AP Investigation

From your posts I am assuming that that you are indeed a professional and employed in the nuclear industry. I salute your great enthusiasm, but I have less enthusiasm for those put you - and others - at risk. For example - there was nothing wrong with the professionalism onboard the Titanic. The crew, as history records it, was the usual phenomenal British lot; including those souls who stayed at their stations below deck - far beyond safety - to assure adequate lighting for the struggling humanity on board. Everything about that ship was a superlative, and everything the public desired it to be was evident and celebrated. And yet - something was dreadfully wrong; the beauty that was designed in great minds and launched with great hope was instead corrupt at the core; doomed to failure; the sanctity of the creation and proper operation of the entire enterprise was suddenly and fatally flawed; it's virtues subservient to profit. The Captain was now merely the driver; the dream a nightmare.

But I wish you well in any event... :)

It's Still the Economy, Stupid - Newsweek

"The U.S. didn’t ratify the Kyoto accords, of course, because Al Gore and I left office, and the next government wasn’t for it. They were all wrong. Before the financial meltdown, the four countries that will meet their Kyoto greenhouse-gas emission targets were outperforming America with lower unemployment, more new business formation, and less income inequality."

U.S. Nuclear Regulators Weaken Safety Rules, Fail To Enforce Them: AP Investigation

The article mentions concern that something could "...jeopardize the future of nuclear power in the United States." Huh ?? How 'bout the future of good ole' us ?

No sober, literate human can witness the disaster in Japan - with its revelations of inept management and compromised, outmoded American technology - and breath with ease anywhere in the world. We have played with hellfire and Fukushima may be the beginning of something monstrous and unstoppable.

My home state of California is a goner if it has an accident like Fukushima, where an area 17 times the size of Manhattan is being rendered totally uninhabitable. The northwest coast of the U.S. already has strontium-90 in automobile engine air filters, and there are creeping statistics for many dangers - everywhere. How could we be so insane, greedy and spiritually bankrupt to ever believe that anything could ever be worth this humongous risk?

Anyone who promotes nuclear energy technology at this point is dangerous to America and to all humanity - and should be chased across the plains like vermin... they cannot be allowed to succeed.
